Optimizing VR: Research

There are definitely differences between optimizing for different devices and for different platforms.

As in the case of devices, you have to account for different hardware and basic software devices, especially as graphics rendering engines may differ amongst varying device models and and platforms. Most mobile VR systems have limited storage and processing power, so you have to limit the amount of “draw calls” and optimize in-game textures – make the meshes and textures are as simple as you can manage. Also, ensure the methods you are using are the most efficient ones you can use in each use case. A lack of optimization can cause the framerate for the game to slow significantly.
